Родители не оценили страданий Никта, он обиделся и ушёл спать в самый дальний угол кладбища. А там была могила упырей, которые как раз возвращались домой:

Так вот ты какой, британский английский для детей. Что они говорят-то вообще?

Ух ты. Откуда тут мать, понятно — «lumme» это удивленное сокращение от «Lord love me», и каждый раз поминать Господа всуе не обязательно. Но куда подевался дом?

What’s this when it’s at home it’s an intensifier used to communicate the fact that one knows nothing about a particular person or subject. It often implies derision for the subject, or some erudite, esoteric, or overly technical word, and requests to simplify the language and avoid fancy titles. It uses the idea that at home, people don’t bother trying to sound impressive, calling a spade a spade.

А вот так получится, если спросить о человеке:

‘Where does The Grand High Witch live **when she’s at home**?’ I asked. ‘Nobody knows,’ my grandmother said.

Где живет ведьма, когда она дома? Никто не знает!

P.S. А упырей так зовут потому, что епископа и герцога они сожрали.
